Wilderness First Aid Courses
Traditional WFA
Two Days In-Person
The original Wilderness First Aid course is for those who learn best in a traditional classroom setting! The WFA course builds a foundation of wilderness medicine theory and puts it into practice with hands-on learning. This two-year certification course is compliant with the WMEC standards and includes 16 contact hours! You also gain a CPR certification and a Wilderness Anaphylaxis Training certification!
WFA Curriculum
Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
Patient Assessment Scene Size-up, Primary Survey, Secondary Survey
Bleeding and Shock
Abdominal and Chest Injuries
Wound Management (bandaging)
Fractures & Dislocations, Splinting
Head and Spine Injuries, Spinal Immobilization
Lightning Injuries and Prevention
Heat-Related Illness
Medical Emergencies in the Wilderness
Hypothermia & Cold-Related Illness/Injury (Frostbite, etc.)
Evacuation Guidelines
Multiple practice workshops and scenarios are also included in the curriculum. Most of our practice scenarios are based on real-life incidents that our instructors have managed as professional rescuers or encountered in their own backcountry adventures.
